1989年，大卫·林奇拍了Twin Peaks: Pilot ，讲述FBI探员Dale Cooper 去双峰镇，调查女中学生Laura Palmer被谋杀事件。以大卫·林奇的一贯作风，整出片子到处充满了神秘事件和诡异疑点，而且没有结局可言。这大概引起了观众的不满，或者好奇心。于是，电视台或是创作班底决定以这个为起点，将它发展成一部连续剧。出于神秘的原因，David Lynch不愿担任导演，而是出任执行监制，找了另外的导演来拍摄这部剧集。结果Twin Peaks第1集就已经是一部续集，这就是为什么在第1集时的片头就有“双峰之前”，交代前面的故事。                                                                      　　大卫·林奇的《双峰》是美国90年代最为着名的电视剧之一。曾荣获1990年美国电视评论协会大奖，1997年美国金球奖最佳男女主角奖，1991年美国艾美奖8项大奖，1991年美国广播协会最佳电视剧奖，而大卫·林奇也因此登上了《时代》杂志的封面。                                                                      　　这部剧集与大卫?林奇的电影作品有很大不同之处，人物众多但个性分明，故事线索分支不多但剧情峰回路转，许多人被Lora的死亡之迷所吸引，也为侦探怪异的侦破方式着迷，虽然到最后也在电视版本中也没交代谜底（虽然林奇宣称他在第二集告诉了观众凶手是谁了），但对人类欲望中产阶级的生活的剖解的相当深刻。而林奇的忠实影迷也不会失望，整部剧集所呈现的特异风格，纠结了怪诞唯美与迷离的气氛，都是大卫?林奇的经典本色。其中Lora还被《Time》誉为电视史上最性感的死尸 。                                                                      　　The story begins with the murder of Laura Palmer, a teen aged girl who lived in the quiet town of Twin Peaks, near the US - Canadian borders. Everyone seems surprised and devastated by the girl's murder, and the town's sherif welcomes the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who comes to investigate the case. As Cooper begins his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets are gradually exposed. This is definitely not an average quiet town, it seems as everyone has something big to hide. At nights, agent Cooper sees strange visions of Laura and other mysterious people, visions that tell him that something big is happening here, something far more evil than a single murder case...

As series five begins, the usual quirks are there: a plot made of brightly coloured Sticklebricks, characters mugging at the camera, a fatal fondness for flashbacks and Adrian Lester delivering his lines as if it were an elocution contest. And if that weren't enough, there's another hitch: Marc Warren and Jaime Murray have left the series, and losing two-fifths of your lead cast would dent any drama. So with Danny and Stacey "still in the States" after the Las Vegas finale of the last series, and Albert (Robert Vaughn) in prison, Mickey (Lester) is looking to assemble a new crew, with the help of Ash (Robert Glenister) - still the only one you could almost believe, if you half-closed your eyes, might be a con man.
